According to Baz Bamigboye of the British Daily Mail, actors Joe Alwyn, Andrew Garfield and Rooney Mara will star in the Remake ‘Brideshead Revisited‘ directed by Luca Guadagnino.

While at Oxford University, Ryder befriends the aristocratic Sebastian Flyte — the ‘half-heathen’, teddy‑bear-loving son of a Catholic family who reside at a baroque stately home called Brideshead.

Alwyn will be Sebastian (a role taken by Anthony Andrews in 1981), while his sister, Lady Julia — who comes between his friendship with Ryder — will be played by Rooney Mara.

Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes are in talks to join the cast for the sumptuous mini-series, which will start filming in the spring at locations in the UK and Venice.

Exciting news! Joe has a new project lined up, a biopic about Wuthering Heights author Emily Brontë, who will be played by Emma Mackey. This will be the directorial debut of actress Frances O’Connor and filming takes place in Winter 2021 in Yorkshire, England. Fionn Whitehead and Emily Beecham will also star. The film is slated for a 2022 release.

Variety:

Emma Mackey, Joe Alwyn to Star in Emily Brontë Origin Story

Emma Mackey, Joe Alwyn, Fionn Whitehead and Emily Beecham have boarded an Emily Brontë’s origin story, helmed and scripted by Frances O’Connor. Embankment has launched worldwide sales on the film.

In her script, O’Connor has imagined the transformative journey to womanhood of Brontë – a rebel and a misfit, and author of “Wuthering Heights.”

O’Connor, known for her extensive acting career including “Mansfield Park,” “Bedazzled,” “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” and “The Missing,” makes her directorial debut.

O’Connor said: “Emily Brontë’s work and words are full of passion, feeling, violence, and fierce intelligence. In creating an imagined life for Emily, she will live again for our audience. Her story is about a young woman daring to form herself, to embrace her true nature, despite the consequences. Emily is, in fact, a love letter to women today, especially young women, a calling to them to challenge themselves to connect with their authentic voice and potential.”

Emma Mackey, lead in Netflix hit “Sex Education,” heads the cast as Emily. Joe Alwyn (“The Favourite,” “Boy Erased,” “Mary Queen of Scots” and “Harriet”), star of Netflix’s forthcoming Jojo Moyes’ adaptation “Last Letter from Your Lover,” stars as Emily’s conflicted lover.

Fionn Whitehead, who played the lead in “Dunkirk” and the Emmy-Award winning “Bandersnatch,” plays Branwell Brontë, Emily’s inspiring but self-destructive brother. Whitehead will be seen later this year in Roger Michell’s “The Duke,” opposite Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent, and Neil Berger’s “Voyagers.”

Emily Beecham, winner of Cannes Film Festival 2019’s best actress prize for “Little Joe,” and appearing in Disney’s upcoming “Cruella,” plays Charlotte Brontë.

Principal photography will start in the first quarter of next year in Yorkshire, U.K.

“Emily” is produced by David Barron (“Harry Potter” films 4-8, “Cinderella,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”), Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford’s Tempo Productions (“Military Wives,” “Ordinary Love,” “The Wife”) with Robert Connolly and Robert Patterson of Arenamedia (“Paper Planes,” “Balibo,” “The Dry”).

Barron said: “We are going to produce a movie of significant ambition – for audiences to enjoy and celebrate the scale of Emily Bronte’s own magnificent imagination.”

Embankment’s Tim Haslam said: “We really admire Frances’ expertise for combining highly refreshing and emotional storytelling with detailed research and nuanced observation and we celebrate her as a new voice of cinema.”

Embankment is placing worldwide sales and distribution for a 2022 release.

Bit of a disappointment, but I think Conversations with Friends and Brideshead Revisited are the more interesting roles.

yeah i was excited about Emily but CWF is an amazing project for Joe!

Why would he drop it ?

a scheduling conflict, it starts filming April/May which is the same time Conversations with Friends is expected to start filming

Hey. Have you seen the rumors that Oliver Jackson is gonna substitute Joe on Emily? Apparently he’s dropping because of other projects.

definitely not just a rumour, it shows Oliver Jackson as Weightman now on the 'Emily' IMDb page

disappointed but not surprised!

"I just saw on Twitter that Luca’s next project will start filming on April 5 so idk what’s going on with Brideshead". Well, I think we can be pretty sure it hasn't started/won't be finished by early April. So, I choose to believe it's been pushed back from its original spring schedule - from what I remember it's mainly a summer story anyway - which means it shouldn't clash with CWF, which means Joe should still be able to do both. Which is Good News. 😁

yeah seems Brideshead Revisited has been pushed back, I guess this other film needed to be filmed first. It works out for Joe so that's good!

I heard through the rumour mill that there might be a Harry Potter tv series on HBO. If it's true Joe Alwyn should definitely play as Lucius Malfoy and Katie McGrath as Bellatrix LeStrange

yes heard that too, apparently it's still in a very early development phase but could be cool!

I really want Joe to work with Brad Pitt, I think they could pull off playing brothers or Joe could play a younger version of Brad etc

Joe could definitely play a younger version

Is there any chance they’re filming BR rn? Cate didn’t attend the golden globes 👀

I just saw on Twitter that Luca's next project (the one with Timothee Chalamet) will start filming on April 5 so idk what's going on with Brideshead

anya won for the queen's gambit!! also her outfit was !!!

yes so happy for her!! loved her green dress '

i just finished reading CWF last night and i absolutely loved it!! i’m so excited to see Joe play Nick since he’s such an essential character. It was also so easy to picture Joe in that role

are you going to watch the golden globes?

yes even though everything that's come out the last couple of weeks is a mess
